Mandriva Linux distribution developers have given BitDefender security vendors the thumbs up.

Certificates stating full compatibility between BitDefender for Samba Linux File Servers, BitDefender Mail Protection for Small Business and Mandriva Linux Corporate Server 3.0, have been issued, and the certification attests that Mandriva system administrators will have no trouble whatsoever with installing and running the aforementioned BitDefender security products.

Mandriva also recently announced the second versions of its comprehensive infrastructure and security system Multi Network Firewall. MNF2 provides advanced firewalling, IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and VPN (Virtual Private Network) capabilites in a single product made easy to use by a simple web interface. New features include new types of VPN such as PPTP and OpenVPN, network interface bonding and bridging, traffic shaping, network mapping and peer-to-peer filtering. MNF2 ships with one year online security update service and support options. Price: US$550 / 500 euro.

BitDefender for Samba File Servers is a secure content inspection solution, Virus Bulletin 100% certified. It provides antivirus protection at the Samba share level, scanning all accessed files (read and/or written) for known and unknown malware.

BitDefender Mail Protection for Small Business is a complex and robust antivirus and antispam solution which provides protection at the mail gateway level, by scanning all the inbound and outbound e-mail traffic for known and unknown malware. For its flexibility and reliability at both install- and run-time, it was nominated Product of the Day by the Linux Journal.

While testing the BitDefender software, Mandriva’s Régis Wira commented:
“BitDefender’s Remote Admin module eases so much the antivirus’s configuration, that once you get to use it, you wonder how and why you have been doing without it before. I am glad to give my seal of approval to such capable products.””
