Microsoft picked Huston, formerly with Starbucks Coffee Co. and McKinsey & Co., for his international leadership experience. The change does not signal a major change to its Japan strategy, Microsoft Co. Ltd. Japan said in a statement. The appointments are effective July 1, the Tokyo-based subsidiary said.

Huston said he will continue to tell Japanese customers and partners that open-source operating systems like Linux may not result in cost-savings in the long run and that Microsoft offers value.
