Microsoft Set to Take Over the Mobile World
Anonymous Reader writes "The minute Palm and PalmOne split up, speculations arose regarding the direction the phone maker will take when it needs a new OS for its upcoming devices. Since there are only three big players in the market including Palm, Windows and Symbian (with Linux gradually starting to pick up), PalmOne decided to opt for Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS. The reason is quite clear, Microsoft obviously wants a pie of the hugely lucrative smartphone market and probably offered to license the OS at a desirable price. In return, it became a platform for one of the most popular handhelds, the Treo."
