When VMware (NYSE: VMW) invited archrivals Microsoft and Citrix Systems to VMworld 2008, its user conference being held in Las Vegas through Thursday, everyone was surprised. Sure, VMware is trying to show it’s open, but being this open could be a recipe for trouble for the virtualization kingpin.
