More from Kelly McNeill and an osOpinion opinion: “In recent weeks, UK government portal Gateway.gov.uk fell victim to Microsoft’s ongoing yet unstated ’embrace, extend and extinguish’ business plan, as now the site’s services are only available to users of Windows and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser. The reason given for this change is that alternative operating systems and Web browsing environments do not have adequate support for SSL and digital certificates. For those of us in the know, that’s utter nonsens.”
