SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 17, 2003 — MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced the appointment of Scott Jaffe as the company’s new vice president of Business Development. In his new role, Mr. Jaffe will lead business development strategy and initiatives at MontaVista Software, further expanding and strengthening relationships with key strategic partners worldwide.

Mr. Jaffe has extensive leadership experience in both start-up and large corporate environments. For the past 10 years, he has held senior executive positions, including senior vice president Worldwide Operations and sales for Tangram Enterprise Solutions, and vice president North American Sales for Sybase.

“Since coming on board in August as director of Business Development, Scott has already proven to be an enormous asset to our company,” said Jim Ready, CEO and president, MontaVista Software. “Scott has a terrific track record of developing strategic alliances that directly and positively affect a company’s bottom line while dovetailing into the company strategy. We are eager to tap into his vision and expertise as our worldwide operations continue to grow at a tremendous rate.”

For the last three years, MontaVista Software has been on a steady growth path, with the company’s 2002 revenue growing more than 600 percent over 2000. A major factor in this success has been the company’s focus on building an extensive ecosystem of strategic partners from a broad array of semiconductor, software application, middleware and systems integration companies to provide solutions for manufacturers in key markets including telecommunications, mobile, home entertainment and automotive telematics.

A research report from Venture Development Corporation (VDC) stated earlier this year that almost one in four of all embedded Linux® projects currently under development are based on MontaVista® Linux. The VDC study also predicts that global shipments of embedded Linux operating systems, add-on components and related services will maintain a consistent 20 percent annual growth rate during the next five years.

“Strategic alliances continue to be of pivotal importance to our company’s success as we continue to grow as the preferred provider of Linux systems software platforms worldwide,” said Scott Jaffe, vice president of Business Development, MontaVista Software. “With a strong brand, global presence and solid products specifically designed to meet the needs of customers in markets ranging from consumer electronics to communications infrastructure, MontaVista is well positioned to continue increasing its market share.”
