Annette Oevermann writes: MontaVista Software, Inc. announced today that Intel Corporation, Force Computers and MontaVista Software are jointly sponsoring a series of three half-day seminars for software developers of telecommunications applications.

In these free seminars, MontaVista Software, Intel Corporation and Force Computers will demonstrate how modular communications platforms (comprised of open standards-based hardware and carrier-grade Linux operating system software) help network equipment and service providers bring their next-generation telecommunications applications to market faster and at a lower cost. The seminars, entitled “Modular COTS Platforms for Carrier Grade Applications,” will be held in Santa Clara, Calif. (Nov 13), Paris, France (Nov 18) and Munich, Germany (Nov 20).

The seminars will give an overview of the three companies’ joint carrier-grade modular solutions, introduce telecommunications-specific hardware and Linux platforms, and provide a live demonstration featuring MontaVista(tm) Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) running on the Intel architecture-based Force Computer platform.

Telecommunications and networking equipment manufacturers are increasingly under pressure to provide scalable, high-performance applications faster and at a lower cost. These seminars will demonstrate how to achieve these goals with platforms based on the wide range of communications-specific Intel architecture-based processors in combination with Force Computer?s standard building blocks and MontaVista Linux CGE, which enhances the standard Linux operating system with key features for deployment in carrier-grade environments. These features include high availability, a hardened driver architecture, resource monitoring and fault management services, and other carrier-grade capabilities.
