“MontaVista Linux Powers New GIGA STREAM. Universal Navigation Switch for Mobile Operator.   Helps Deliver Best Possible Mobile User Experience.     SUNNYVALE, Calif., and SAARBRÃœCKEN, Germany, Jan. 13, 2004 MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and GIGA STREAM, a world leader in mobile network infrastructure products, today announced that MontaVista® Linux® Professional Edition (Pro) is the chosen operating system (OS) for GIGA STREAMs new Universal Navigation Switch (UNS) for mobile operators and network infrastructure system integrators.

The recently announced Universal Navigation Switch is the first to integrate 3G, WLAN / WiFi and high performance IP packet transmissions on a single platform, and thus enable seamless roaming between Radio Access Networks and Wireless LANs. This will enable 3G and WiFi to complement each other rather than compete with one another by allowing mobile users to move back and forth between the two, having first established a session in either. The UNS integrates 3G, WLAN and high-performance IP packet transmission capability for mobile operators to let them quickly respond to changing mobile business environments. The UNS facilitates a smooth migration from the current TDM, ATM transport toward all-IP internetworking.

MontaVista Linux is one of the most effective operating systems for wireless devices around the world, says Thomas Maul, founder and CEO of GIGA STREAM. With UNS and MontaVista Linux, we can offer mobile operators and network infrastructure system integrators custom software solutions on a robust OS and development environment to deliver the best possible mobile user experience.

GIGA STREAM is setting the pace in the design of voice, data and video service nodes for next-generation wireless networks that will be the life-blood of 3G and WLAN / WiFi service offerings, said Hendrik Norderhaven, mManaging dDirector Central Europe, MontaVista Software. As wireless technologiesy rapidly evolves, the supporting software needs to be more robust to support theirtheir rich functionality and networking capabilities. MontaVista Linux provides a powerful systems software platform that can help to quickly bring these advanced technologies to market.
