MontaVista Software Delivers Java and a Range of Graphics for CEE

These offerings include:

Most of these products already support MontaVista Linux Professional Edition (Pro) and have now also been fully integrated and tested to run on MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition 3.0.

MontaVista Software adds significant value to the s oftware products from IBM (viz.: WebSphere Studio Device Developer) and Trolltech® (viz.: Qtopia and Qt/Embedded). MontaVista builds and validates each one of them for the particular processors, video chipsets or reference board configurations supported b y MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition, and delivers it in binary and source, ready-to-deploy, to device developers. These products, along with MontaVista Graphics for CEE, are available directly from MontaVista Software, which also provides full technical support.

IBM WebSphere Studio Device Developer for CEE is the premier development and deployment solution for building embedded Java applications for the new generation of intelligent, networked devices. In additio n to the WebSphere Studio Device Developer Integrated Development Environment (IDE), this new product provides two runtime environments. To meet the latest J2ME(TM) specifications designed for the wide variety of consumer device solutions based on Java technology, WebSphere Studio Device Developer for CEE incorporates the WebSphere Micro Environment Version 5.0, a certified J2ME runtime environment. For extended flexibility, it also includes the WebSphere Custom Environment to provide a customizable runtime environment that can be tailored to the specific needs of particular embedded device. MontaVista Software builds, tests and supports these Java runtimes.

Qtopia for CEE delivers a complete, ready-to-use smart phone and PDA application suite and frame work based on Qt/Embedded including PIM (Personal Information Management) synchronization to MS Outlook. Qtopia for CEE provides an integrated, tested and tuned binary software suite including source code to device manufacturers that enables improved prod uctivity and reduced time-to-market. Combining the Qt API and the Qtopia software suite, this toolkit offers developers a flexible solution for the rapid development of smart phones, PDAs and other advanced devices.

Qt/Embedded for CEE delivers the p opular Qt API in a small-footprint implementation designed specifically to meet the needs of embedded device developers creating graphics-based applications. With special engineering features designed to speed host-based application development, Qt/Embedd ed for CEE provides MontaVista customers with the assurance of a powerful graphics toolkit.

MontaVista Graphics for CEE delivers powerful, configurable footprint, network-enabled graphics based on the X Windows system. Well known and used for the pas t 15 years, X provides serious graphics features in a modular package designed to work across a wide variety of platforms. X is supported by a large number of development tools and auxiliary applications (window managers, browsers, multimedia services).

MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition
CEE is the first Linux operating system and cross-development environment specifically designed for consumer electronics devices such as mobile phones, digital televisions, set-top boxes and automotive telematics. MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition 3.0 enhances Linux with dynamic po wer management, rich consumer-focused networking support and consumer-grade reliability. Based on the 2.4.20 Linux kernel, CEE 3.0 incorporates DPM (Dynamic Power Management), support for XIP (eXecute In Place) of the kernel and applications, streaming media optimizations, the O(1) real-time scheduler and new MontaVista System Measurement Tools to measure system performance, timing and memory size. CEE also features bundled power-management-enabled driver support for peripherals including digital cameras, IrDA, MMC cards and USB.
