Annette Oevermann writes “CTIA Wireless, New Orleans, March 17, 2003 MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced it has joined the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a global organization formed to foster worldwide growth in the mobile services market.

The Open Mobile Alliance is designed to be the global center of all mobile application standardization work, enabling the creation of mobile services. This is achieved by defining an open standards-based framework to permit applications and services to be built, deployed and managed efficiently and reliably in a multi-vendor environment.

The Open Mobile Alliance comprises approximately 300 member companies covering the entire mobile services value chain, including the worlds leading mobile operators, device and network suppliers, information technology and infrastructure companies, and content providers. OMA membership includes industry leaders such as Alcatel, AT&T Wireless Services, Cisco Systems, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Sony, AOL Time Warner, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and Yamaha.

MontaVista Software strongly believes in the benefits of open standards and looks forward to contributing to this initiative, said Scott Hedrick, senior product marketing manager, MontaVista Software. Ultimately, from systems software to mobile services, the power of open standards will shape the wireless future.
