Annette Oevermann writes “SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 5, 2003 MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced it will participate in Xilinx Programmable World 2003. MontaVista will join in the IBM booths in select locations in North America and Germany and demonstrate MontaVista(R) Linux(R) Professional Edition targeting and running on the Xilinx ML300 Development Kit.

Late last year, MontaVista announced that MontaVista Linux Professional Edition had been certified for the Xilinx(R) Virtex(R)-II Pro ML300 development platform. The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro programmable platform chip offers hard IBM(R) PowerPC(R) 405 processor cores, along with many other features.

The ML300 enables designers to accelerate the development of systems using the company’s Virtex-II Pro FPGAs with the IBM PowerPC family of processors. The integration of the Virtex-II Pro hardware platform with MontaVista Linux, the leading embedded Linux OS and development environment, yields a flexible design environment, with which engineers can lower product costs and accelerate their time to market.

MontaVista Software was one of the first embedded software companies to develop a Linux-based platform for the IBM PowerPC family of processors beginning with the PowerPC 405GP, said Bill Weinberg, director, Strategic Marketing, MontaVista Software. MontaVista Software continues to support the most advanced semiconductor architectures, such as the new Virtex-II Pro family which features PowerPC 405 processor cores. The combination of the reconfigurable Virtex-II Pro FPGA and MontaVista Linux makes an ideal platform for a wide range of embedded applications.

MontaVista Software will be in the IBM booth at Programmable World in the following locations in North America on May 6 San Jose, CA; Dallas, TX; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; San Diego, CA; Ottawa, Ontario; and Los Angeles, CA and on May 15 in Munich, Germany.

Programmable World is a collaborative industry forum, sponsored by Xilinx, IBM and other companies, which is designed to provide engineers with easy and timely access to the latest technologies and design methodologies for programmable solutions. The forum offers insights from a wide range of industry leaders into multiple technologies such as processing, programmable logic, digital signal processing, high-speed connectivity and design tools in a single location.
