Intel Developer Forum, San Jose, Calif., Sept. 18, 2003 — MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that MontaVista® Linux® Professional Edition will support the new Intel® IXDP2401, IXDP2801 and IXDP2851 advanced development platforms for customers of Intel network processors.

Intel introduced these new development platforms at the Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, Calif., this week, to enhance support for open modular communications standards such as PICMG3.x AdvancedTCA(TM), which is ideal for network equipment OEMs developing access, edge and metro-core applications. The new platforms also allow maximum flexibility for these companies to incorporate third party software, hardware and boards.

MontaVista Linux already supports the Intel® IXP4XX, IXP2400, IXP2800 and IXP2850 network processors, which are designed to meet requirements within the core infrastructure, the network edge and in customer premises equipment (CPE). These network processors are optimized in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness for each of these respective segments.

“The combination of the new Intel development platforms and MontaVista Linux will help equipment makers rapidly introduce next-generation ATCA-based networking systems,” said Doug Davis, general manager, Intel Network Processor Division. “MontaVista Linux Professional Edition can help OEMs of high performance network systems, including switches and routers, rapidly develop and deploy new platforms.”

MontaVista Linux is a complete embedded operating system and cross development environment. This award-winning product contains an impressive array of cross-development tools for system and application development, unparalleled processor and board support, and hundreds of deployable utilities, libraries, drivers, and other run-time components.

“MontaVista Linux offers a powerful operating system and development environment enabling companies to build a wealth of advanced networking and real-time capabilities into their devices, achieving quicker time-to-market and lower total costs,” added Sheila Baker, vice president, Marketing, MontaVista Software. “Now, telecommunications equipment designers can benefit from the enhanced communication standards support of Intel’s new development platforms together with the performance, reliability and flexibility of our scalable operating system.”
