MontaVista supports new IBM STBX25XX integrated controller chip

Annette Oevermann writes: MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that MontaVista(tm) Linux® Professional Edition 2.1 will support IBM’s new STBx25xx integrated set-top box (STB) controller chip for next-generation digital set-top boxes.

Building on IBM’s PowerPC 405 architecture, the high performance STBx25xx controller provides manufacturers and service providers with a high performance, low cost solution for demanding digital set-top box applications, including multimedia home platforms (MHP), digital terrestrial services, interactive TV, Web browsing and data broadcasting.

The combination of the IBM STBx25xx and MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 2.1 supports new interactive applications that consumers can access through their television set-top boxes, such as online music and video on demand, Internet gaming, interactive TV, Web browsing, and secure online e-commerce transactions.

MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 2.1 boasts unrivaled development support for a range of embedded processor architectures including IBM PowerPC. The award-winning release enables a wide variety of embedded applications, providing a standard platform for designs from communications infrastructure to connected consumer electronic devices.

MontaVista Linux 2.1 Professional Edition for the IBM STBx25xxx controller is available now from MontaVista Software and its worldwide MontaVista distribution channels. It is offered as a product subscription, providing customers with the MontaVista Linux kernel, utilities, development tools, software updates, access to the MontaVista Zone and full technical support.
