SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 6, 2004 – MontaVista Software, Inc. today announced MontaVista(r) Linux(r) Professional Edition (Pro) ADK, a new product addressing the increased role of application software in next-generation computing devices. Designed for building applications that run on MontaVista Linux powered devices, the ADK offers developers a powerful enterprise-class development environment.

Pro ADK represents a full application development tool-set built around MontaVista Software’s Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment, MontaVista DevRocket(tm). The ADK provides core MontaVista Linux software libraries and header files, enabling full MontaVista Linux application development on Windows(r), Solaris(tm) and Linux workstations. In addition to the standard MontaVista cross-architecture tools, the ADK also includes x86 versions of the product, enabling developers to prototype their applications on generic PC hardware or simulator environments running MontaVista Linux, prior to real target hardware availability. Because both Pro and Pro ADK are built from a common source-base that spans a broad range of supported processor architectures, developers can be assured that their application software will run with little to no additional effort on MontaVista Linux-powered devices.

“As increasingly powerful semiconductor technology is designed-in to next generation computing devices, application software is playing an ever more prominent role,” said Jacob Lehrbaum, product manager, MontaVista Software. “Using the ADK, developers can rapidly and effectively build applications for use on MontaVista powered devices and thus improve their competitive edge.”
