Anonymous Reader writes “HANNOVER, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 10, 2005–Arkeia Corp., the leading provider of backup and recovery solutions for Linux-based environments, announced today at CeBIT 2005 a major upgrade of Arkeia Server Backup with an innovative new pricing model. Arkeia Server Backup, built on Arkeia’s proven technology, was expressly developed for the many SMBs and organizational structures with centralized Linux servers.

Along with enhanced features for Version 2, Arkeia also revealed the new pricing structure for Arkeia Server Backup that is a first among major software backup providers. Designed to provide a fair value determined by data volume, the pricing model was developed for SMBs seeking a highly sophisticated backup solution for a needs-based price.

A significant new feature in Arkeia Server Backup is support for tape autoloaders, allowing fully automatic backup of high-volume servers. Like previous versions, Arkeia Server Backup is compatible with all major tape devices on the market as well as numerous tape media technologies. Other new features include automatic multi-flow backup from disks, a choice of simple or detailed log reports and compatibility with new Arkeia hot backup plug-ins.

“Arkeia Server Backup can scale from the protection of a few gigabytes of valuable data to terabytes of information,” said Arkeia CEO Phil Roussel. “A data volume-based pricing model was the obvious choice to offer a fair cost to many of our users, from small businesses to medium enterprises.”

“Arkeia’s increasingly strong position in the Linux backup market is driven by solid technology and innovative thinking like its new data volume-based pricing model,” said Peter Gerr, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Arkeia Server Backup is a solution that merits serious consideration for SMBs and organizations looking for a professional backup solution with advanced features, yet is still straightforward to implement and easy to use.”

Arkeia Server Backup features an easy-to-use Java interface that makes it one of the most intuitive backup solutions on the market. Users with minimal computing skills can take advantage of a fully integrated Wizard for easy setup of basic operations.

As with the powerful network version, Arkeia Server Backup provides:

— Remote administration and operation

— Simultaneous parallel backup and restore operations

— Automatic multi-flow management

— Total, incremental and differential backups

— Interactive, differed and scheduled backups

— Calendar interface to manage scheduled backup, including backup exceptions

— Before and after backup commands

— Backup history memorization

— Log visualization by backup, restore or full view

— Sending of the backup report by e-mail

— Point-in-time restore

— Restore with data redirection

— Disaster Recovery module

Arkeia Server Backup also features plug-ins that can handle online backup for data applications such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, Lotus, Open-Xchange (including SLOX) and LDAP.

Data volume pricing ranges will begin at $99 for 50 GB.

To acknowledge the contribution of thousands of Linux users who have donated time and expertise toward the goal of making Linux a viable alternative OS, Arkeia will make available a free version of the lower range data-volume edition of Arkeia Server Backup.

Arkeia Server Backup Version 2 will be available for download in the beginning of April at http://www.arkeia.com/download/.
