“This is the right strategy because nobody else has done the same thing,” said Novell corporate technology strategist John Philips of his company’s involvement of the open source community in its Beagle e-mail search tool. “We may extend it or integrate it with our technology,” he said, adding that phase one of the Beagle project was to allow others to make enhancements.
