An OASIS of security?
"Formed on a shoestring in 1993 by a group of small vendors looking to develop guidelines for interoperability among SGML publishing tools, it adopted the OASIS name in 1998 to acknowledge the growing popularity of SGML subset XML. Bang: A year later, XML becomes synonymous with e-business and the then-fledgling Web services movement. Microsoft senses an opening for .Net, joins OASIS, and gives the group the big-name boost it needs. IBM, Sun, HP, and Oracle follow suit, with fat wallets and eager software engineering talent."
