Obituary: Michael M. Murphree

NewsForge.com regrets to report that our freelance contributor Michael M. Murphree, 41, died Monday, October 17, as a result of a heart attack. Michael worked as a system administrator and held Level 2 certification from the Linux Professional Institute. A devoted family man, he also enjoyed writing children’s fiction, woodworking, and building computer systems for the less fortunate. His passing deprives the Linux community of an articulate, informed voice. In addition to his wife Katrina, Michael is survived by three young children: Connor, Cinnamon, Caellum. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to an education fund which has been set up for the children. Contributions can be made by making a check payable to Greer State Bank and noting in the Memo field “FBO Murphree Children.”
