“HERNDON, VA and SUNNYVALE, CA, Oct.1, 2003 — Objective Interface Systems, Inc., a leader in embedded and real-time communications software, and MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today jointly announced the release of Objective Interface’s ORBexpress(TM) RT for C++ for MontaVista® Linux® Professional Edition, targeting telecommunications, data communications, industrial automation, consumer electronics, military and aerospace markets.

Based on OMG standard CORBA technology, ORBexpress provides developers with a fast, full-featured alternative to in-house proprietary communication protocols. ORBexpress simplifies the development of distributed software applications, builds scalable, efficient and robust applications, and reduces overall development time — meeting time-to-market requirements. It is the only Object Request Broker (ORB) combining high-speed performance with extreme reliability.

“The availability of ORBexpress for MontaVista Linux offers developers a unique combination of fast performance, lean footprint, and high reliability,” commented Bill Weinberg, director of Strategic Marketing, MontaVista Software. “Projects built on MontaVista Linux can now employ Objective Interface ORBexpress to ease distributed application programming among processes on the same board as well as across multiple boards. Moreover, standards-compliant ORBexpress lets applications seamlessly interoperate across operating systems and programming languages.”

MontaVista Linux Professional Edition (Pro) is an industry-leading comprehensive embedded operating system and cross development environment that is MontaVista Software’s flagship product. It provides a common source and binary platform across a broad range of processor architectures. MontaVista Linux Pro includes a modern OS featuring real-time functionality, multi-process and multi-threaded with extensive bundled software components including rich networking.

“This new product release extends the reach of both MontaVista Linux and
ORBexpress,” said Steve Grimaldi, Objective Interface chief operating officer. “Initially, developers are exploiting the combination to produce deterministic, real-time, software-defined radio applications. In the future, there is also the potential to use our integrated products for telecommunication systems-based carrier-grade Linux applications.”
