There has been no announcement (yet), but Linus has made a new prepatch called “2.6.9-final” available. The changelog shows a small set of relatively important bug fixes since 2.6.9-rc4. One assumes that the intent is to turn this version into the real 2.6.9 if nothing scary turns up.
