Open Source gets a boost Down Under

mikemcclure writes “Yesterday new legislation was passed in the Australian Capital Territory government.

This legislation requires that ACT government departments should “as far as practicable, prefer open source software to proprietary”.

This is a great step forward for those of us trying to get open source and open standards into the government.
This legislation is only for local government but once the technology becomes a known quantity then the federal government won’t be too far behind.
