Malaysia has a vibrant open source community that is considered an innovator this area, according to enterprise software maker Oracle
Corp.

“Linux is very strong here in Malaysia,” said Robert Shimp, its vice-president of technology marketing.

Shimp, who was giving the media an update on Oracle’s grid computing technology, said that Malaysia’s expertise in this area augured well for the
country.

“I think we’ll see more adoption of clustering technology build around Linux and low-cost commodity-based Intel processors, and this is where
expertise in Linux would be useful,” he said.
