Betsy Riley writes: The Open Cluster Group announces the
release of version 1.3 of the popular OSCAR software. OSCAR is a
snapshot of the best known methods for building, programming, and
administering clusters. It consists of a fully integrated and easy to
install software bundle designed for high performance cluster computing.
Everything needed to install, build, maintain, and use a modest sized
Linux cluster is included in the suite, making it unnecessary to
download or even install any individual software packages on your
cluster. Over 56,000 copies of OSCAR have been downloaded since it was
first made available on SourceForge in June 2001.

The features of OSCAR v1.3 are:

  • RedHat 7.1 and 7.2 support
  • Mandrake 8.2 support (experimental)
  • Support for the Itanium 1 platform
  • Support for adding/deleting nodes
  • Easy user selection of MPI implementation
  • Ganglia (2.2.3) monitoring system
  • Improved cluster test routine and results display
  • An API for drop in package support
  • Updated packages:
    • C3 3.1
    • Pfilter 1.663
    • LAM/MPI 6.5.6
    • MPICH 1.2.4
    • Maui scheduler 3.0.6p9
    • OpenPBS 2.2p11
    • PVM 3.4.4+6
    • SIS 0.90/2.1.3/1.25

This release is available for download at the OSCAR project page:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/oscar/

(note that although SourceForge marks the download file as “i386”, the
file WILL work on Itanium platforms as well)

Please use the oscar-users mailing list for help and discussions, and
report any bugs in the bug tracker. Both of these are also available at
the OSCAR project page.
