OSDL hires Linux leader for Japan lab

TOKYO, Japan – October 23, 2001 – The Open Source Development Lab (OSDL)has hired Shinji Takazawa to head the soon-to-be-opened sub-lab outside Tokyo, Japan. Takazawa, who has a long history of leadership in the Linux community, will manage the day-to-day operations of the sub-lab, which is scheduled to open later this year.
Supported by NEC, Hitachi, Intel, Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard
Company, IBM, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Miracle Linux and another 10 global companies, the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the reliability and scalability of the Linux system, enabling the development of Linux-based business systems, communications infrastructure and other mission-critical systems.

Shinji Takazawa is a leader in the Linux community in Japan, serving as the Vice President of the Japan Linux Association (JLA), Director of the Linux Professional Institute Japan and as an advisory board member for LinuxWorld Japan. Prior to joining OSDL, Takazawa worked for SGI Japan, Ltd. and Compaq Computers as marketing and promotions manager.

?Takazawa-san will be a great asset to OSDL,? said Koichi Ikumi, executive general manager, Computer Software Operations Unit at NEC and OSDL board member. ?His leadership in the Linux community gives him credibility with both developers and the companies who support OSDL and open source programming.?

Takazawa will head a new facility outside Tokyo, Japan, which will enable OSDL to increase its ability to support projects and provide Linux developers in Asia with Linux and Linux-based software development environments. The sub-lab will work in concert with the main OSDL facility, which is located outside Portland, Oregon. Takazawa will report to the OSDL Lab Director, Timothy Witham.
