The following are email interviews with five “pkgsrc” users (non committers) who use pkgsrc on non-NetBSD systems. pkgsrc is two things: a framework for building and installing software and also tools for managing binary packages. The pkgsrc collection provides specifications and code for building over 5000 packages for several operating system platforms. The NetBSD pkgsrc developers strive to provide tools and code that is portable for many operating systems.
