Mark Canepa, executive vice president of the Network Storage Products Group at Sun Microsystems Inc., will oversee the $4.1 billion buyout of Storage Technology Corp., which was announced June 2, and will likely lead the company once it becomes part of Sun. Since 2001, he has been overseeing development, engineering, marketing and sales of Sun’s storage products, including Sun StorEdge-branded hardware, software, and appliances.
ITMJ:Why in the world did Sun invest $4.1 billion in a tape-archive company (StorageTek)? Isn’t that retro-technology?
