Randy's take on Software Patents, an OSS Developer

jason writes "In the past few years we have been overrun with news about laws, rules, patents, and law suites and how they are taking away our rights as users of technology. The one that we tech new junkies hear a lot about is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) and how another company is using it to restrict the proliferation of technological knowledge. Now, the DMCA is a horrible and has been getting abused nearly weekly since it was signed into law. However, the DMCA is not doing it alone.

Software patents are giving more and more reason to developers NOT to develop new software. Why? Well, a software patent does not cover the actual software source code. It covers the process. So let me give you an example."
