Red Hat Seminar on Open Source Entrepreneurship

ASHEVILLE, NC — The Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC) will host three Red Hat executives for a half day seminar on open source software on July 19th. The Red Hat executives will address open source entrepreneurship including licensing, international business models, and creating a worldwide movement. The event is being sponsored by KemperStrategy and others.

The Red Hat executives who will speak on July 19th include:

  • Michael TiemanVP of Open Source Affairs
    In 1989, Tiemann’s technical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Cygnus Solutions, the first company to provide commercial support for open source software. During his ten years at Cygnus, Tiemann contributed in a number of roles from President to hacker, helping lead the company from fledgling start-up to an admired open source leader.

  • Tom Rabon — Executive VP of Corporate Affairs
    Tom Rabon brings more than 25 years of experience working in government and the private sector to lead Red Hat’s government affairs and public policy initiatives. He worked extensively with governments around the world to create market opportunities in emerging markets such as China and South America.

  • Mark Webbink — Senior VP and General Counsel
    Mark Webbink joined Red Hat in May, 2000 as its first General Counsel. In July 2000, he was elected Corporate Secretary. Prior to joining Red Hat, Webbink was in private practice with Moore & Van Allen, PLLC where he was a member of the firm’s intellectual property practice team and focused his practice on intellectual property transactions. Prior to entering the practice of law, Webbink spent 20 years in corporate finance, holding positions of Chief Financial Officer, Vice President – Finance and Corporate Controller with several Research Triangle area companies.

The event will be held at the Broadway Arts Center in downtown Asheville across from Mellow Mushroom on the corner of Broadway and Walnut. The doors will open at noon. The event will cost $20 per person to cover facility fee and lunch. You must RSVP to attend this event.
