Researchers Root Out New Sony Rootkit

Security firm F-Secure reported that a Sony USB thumb drive quietly installs a rootkit onto users’ computers, which could be turned into a security hole by malicious hackers. Sony says the device in question is no longer sold; however, the issue brings back unpleasant memories of a disaster Sony had with rootkits years ago — a problem that earned the company a spanking by the FTC.
