SAN MATEO, CA – October 9, 2006 – Scalix Corporation, the leading Linux-based email, calendaring and messaging company, today kicked off its open source project by delivering the first of a series of open source components. Keeping to plans it announced in July to bring enterprise-class email and calendaring to the open source community, the source code components released today are part of the base code for all Scalix product editions: Scalix Community Edition, Scalix Small Business Edition, and Scalix Enterprise Edition. The open source components can be downloaded at http://www.scalix.com/downloads/.

“Downloads of our software have increased sixfold since we announced our open source plans,” said Glenn Winokur, CEO of Scalix. “The community reaction has been phenomenal. Developers in organizations of all sizes have demonstrated how interested they are in integrating and extending our messaging platform. We welcome the active community involvement.”

The Scalix Open Source Project will contribute source code in phases. In this first phase, Scalix has delivered source code for Scalix Messaging Services, Scalix Mobile Web Client, Scalix Search and Indexing Services, Scalix Installer and the localization kit. The open source project is based on Scalix 11, the company’s newest major release of its commercial enterprise product family. Scalix will follow with contributions of further open source components through 1Q07.

Developers and Linux enthusiasts can now port Scalix software to new platforms, and can localize, customize, and extend the Scalix software. Scalix has also launched a comprehensive set of resources to support the open source community, including an active community forum, a wiki, a knowledge base, a bug-tracking system, blogs, and an FAQ. Scalix has also released the Beta version of its Scalix 11 Enterprise, Small Business, and Community Editions. Announced last month, added features in Scalix 11 include a Web Services Platform that includes Scalix Messaging Services and Scalix Management Services, and server- and client-based mobile solutions. The Beta version of Scalix 11 source code and Enterprise, Small Business, and Community Editions is available for download at http://www.scalix.com/downloads/.
