Shuttleworth pledges R4m to software search

BILLIONAIRE Mark Shuttleworth has pledged R4m to promote the use of open-source software in SA as a cheaper alternative to the costly big-name brands.His donation is being matched by R4m from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and R4m from Hewlett-Packard over the next two years.

Another R6m will be donated by the Shuttleworth Foundation, the organisation he founded, to promote open-source software.

That gives the Go Open Source campaign a two-year budget of R18m.
