NZheretic writes “The [W3C] Patent Policy Working
Group has released a Working Draft of the Royalty-Free Patent
Policy
for review by the W3C Advisory Committee and the public. The
draft governs the handling of patents in the process of producing and
implementing W3C Recommendations. Comments
from both W3C Members and the public are welcome through 30 April. Read
an informative summary and
the press release and
visit the patent policy home page.

Coverage at CNET indicates that the W3C may be softening it’s Royalty-Free Standard Licensing stance. Please read Adam Warner’s
W3C Patent policy page
on why RAND is not an option for Open Standard Licensing and email your comments to the W3C Patent Policy mailing list!”
