Anonymous Reader writes “Sun posted a video in mp4 format of its ‘Looking Glass 2’ technology. It is a Java-based DE running atop of X (on Linux as well as on Solaris) and utilizes the GPU for leet 3D effects on the desktop. While this looks very promising, unfortunately, Sun now says in an interview about their ‘Java Desktop System’ distro that they don’t have plans to extend this support on X itself (which is how it should be normally done for full performance and feature-set). Thankfully, freedesktop.org‘s X Server is coming along nicely.”
