Russell writes “SVG Document Templates Version 1.0 has been released by Worldlabel.com. The SVG documents include CD, DVD, address and round label templates. Documents can be opened and edited in graphic programs which support SVG for designing labels. The concept can be used for all other types of blank pre-print templates and designed graphics for viewing on the Web, proofing, transfer of documents, editing and printing.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is a language for describing two-dimensional graphics and graphical applications in XML. SVG 1.1 is a W3C Recommendation

In order to create these documents, Inkscape.org, a free Open Source draw program was utilized.

Inkscape.org is a Vector Graphics Editor, similar to CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, that strives to be SVG Compliant, responsive and extensible. SVG Document Templates Version 1.0 in edited with Inkscape or Openoffice.org and in conjunction with the Openclipart.org library gives you a complete end to end solution in Open Source for creating labels.

Openoffice.org Draw program with use of a SVG Import filter and Java activated can open and edit SVG Documents and has a Export function. W3.org Open Source graphic editor Amaya, Sketsa, GIMP and several others Open Source graphic programs supporting SVG can be used and downloaded for free. Adobe, Corel and Quark have incorporated SVG functions into their core products.

We believe these types of documents can be used for a multitude of other graphic and design applications for quick viewing, proofing, web transfer, opening, editing and printing. said Russell Ossendryver, managing director of Worldlabel.com Inc.” Worldlabel.com sees large benefits using SVG files for Document Management when compared to PDF. The potential for wide spread use of this format for blank pre-press templates and other graphic applications for the Web and print media for editing is obvious. They start bridging a gap between the web design and the print design community and now business can give the same presentation on the Web as they do in print. Worldlabel.com will release more label sizes and intend to release templates for all standard size print media like business cards, Media Jewel cases, flyer’s, brochures, post cards, envelopes etc. We believe that at some point SVG Documents will become the universal choice file format for graphics designers.

Worldlabel.com will continue to do further R&D with SVG Documents and will improve the quality as code, components and technology become available. Worldlabel.com is dedicated to the Open Document Format movement and has recently released a complete collection of ODF label templates in XML for Openoffice.org Writer.”
