Cooper Stevenson writes “”SALEM — Some of the heaviest national hitters in technology policy — fearing a national precedent — sent representatives to Oregon on Thursday to block a grassroots effort to persuade the state government to consider purchasing nonmainstream software.”

“In the back of the room hovered Microsoft lobbyists, who did not testify but whose company has a great stake in the bill’s future. Industry groups are attempting to prevent Oregon from leading a movement toward open source.”
