Segment Two- JBoss Application Server .

Tonight we are joined by Marc Fleury to talk about JBoss. Marc Fleury is the founder and lead developer of the JBoss open-source Java application server and the president of Atlanta-based JBoss Group LLC. Fleury was recently recognized as one of CNET’s “Newsmakers” for the accomplishment of establishing JBoss as a significant player in the billion dollar application server industry, which furnishes a key part of the corporate IT infrastructure. Concurrent with the success of JBoss, Fleury is also noteworthy for growing JBoss Group as a successful, self-financing
open-source company.

As a product, JBoss is an open source, standards-compliant, J2EE-based application server implemented in Java. With more than 150,000 downloads per month, JBoss is the most downloaded J2EE-based application server in the industry. JBoss can be embedded in commercial products and is being used in production around the world.

JBoss Group LLC brings together core JBoss developers to provide services such as training, support, consulting and documentation, as well as management of the JBoss software affiliate program. These commercial activities subsidize the development of the free JBoss server.

Before starting JBoss, Fleury worked in both sales
and engineering at Sun
Microsystems. He is a graduate of France’s leading
engineering school,
Ecole Polytechnique, and subsequently obtained a
Masters in Theoretical
Physics from Ecole Nationale Superieure ULM and a
Ph.D in Physics from
Polytechnique for experimental work he did as a
visiting scientist at MIT’s
Research Lab of Electronics. While at Polytechnique
he successfully
completed his military service as a Lieutenant in the Paratroopers.
