Segment Two- Realnetworks & the Helix Community– www.lycoris.com
Tonight on the show we will be joined by Rob Lanphier of RealNetworks, as the Helix Community Manager. Tonight we will talk about Helix DNA and the Helix community. Helix is a platform and a community for the standardization and expansion of digital media. Helix DNA consists of source code developed over eight years by RealNetworks for the creation, delivery and playback of digital media, as well as a set of interfaces for building media-enabled applications. Helix Community members use this source code to build media-capable products with industry-leading technology, intellectual property and commonly used interfaces.
The Helix Community offers source code of the Helix DNA under both commercial community and open source licenses available at www.helixcommunity.org. RealNetworks has also released a family of products built on top of the Helix DNA platform including the Helix Universal Server, and the RealOne Player. The Helix Community software infrastructure is powered by the CollabNet SourceCast environment.
Rob Lanphier is the Helix Community manger for RealNetworks. He has been at RealNetworks for 7 years, working on many initiatives, including co-authoring the RTSP specification, and working in the W3C on both major versions of SMIL. Lanphier received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Idaho.
