Tools target homegrown versions of Linux

Homegrown Linux will get some decidedly commercial attention with TimeSys Corp.’s release this week of a software tool set aimed
at developers of roll-your-own Linux-based systems.

The tool set, which supports the entire Linux development cycle, is believed to be the most comprehensive attempt yet to bring commercial software to
noncommercial strains of Linux.

Analysts said last week that the effort by TimeSys (Pittsburgh) could have broad appeal to embedded developers worldwide, many of whom have begun to
see Linux as an alternative to creating in-house operating systems.
