A group representing some of the world’s biggest technology companies has set out to raise a US$10-million legal defence fund to
protect against legal challenges to the Linux computer operating system.

The move by U.S.-based Open Source Development Labs comes as the war of words over Linux moves closer to a new legal showdown, potentially disrupting
the continued rapid advance of the software.

SCO, a small software company that owns the right to the Unix operating system on which Linux is based, has said that it would file a lawsuit against
a big Linux user by the middle of February.
