THERE ARE increasing rumours that HP may be re-looking at good old Alpha, and the new boss’ supposedly Alpha-friendly attitude would be just another helpful influence. After all, it’s not really dead, the current product is still quite competitive despite being four years old, and its current software support is not behind Itanium, either. This says nothing good about Alpha, but says a lot about Itanium’s current state.
