Looking to regain its dominant position of three years ago, embedded market leader Wind River Systems, Inc. (Alameda, Calif.) said
it has appointed Ken Klein as new board chairman and chief executive officer. Klein, who joined the company’s board of directors in July, succeeds
long-time board chairman Jerry Fiddler and former CEO Tom St. Dennis. Klein was named to the post after an intensive four-month search He currently
serves as chief operating officer and a board member for the IT software firm Mercury Interactive Corp. At Mercury, Klein helped build it into a
company with $500 million in annual revenues.

Wind River executives said they chose Klein for his combination of marketing and engineering experience, along with his record at Mercury.

“There are very few software companies that can deliver value, get paid for it and build an effective company around it,” said Fiddler. “Mercury has
successfully done that around a technology that is very difficult to understand.”
