Like most other Linux users, I have lost count of how many times people have asked me how I got started using Linux. In today’s computing environment, the high majority of people encounter Windows as their first operating system (OS). This is due to Windows’ popularity, not only with beginners and people who are not computer professionals, but with the home user in general. Of course Apple’s OS X is considered to be one of the best OS’s for new users, but given the limited market share of this platform it is not that important a factor (at least until the x86 Apple’s come along).
