VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, an umbrella term for any system that delivers voice data over the Internet -- it is popularly used to refer to systems that replace land-line telephone service, but includes PC-to-phone and PC-to-PC as well; plus any videoconferencing or instant-messaging application that supports voice. A VOIP system that replaces traditional telephone service is referred to as IP Telephony.
