From ZDCOUK: Opera officials said the decision whether or not to release free
versions for other platforms depends on customer feedback on the
company’s first ad-supported free release, Opera 5.0 for
Windows.

Both Opera Software, a Norwegian browser maker, and
NeoPlanet, a contributor to Netscape’s Mozilla open source
development group, are making aggressive moves just as many
see America Online subsidiary Netscape in a newly vulnerable

Linux.com reports: “There are now several Linux mp3 players to choose from, one of the more popular being
XMMS, the X Multimedia System. One of its strengths is that it allows you to extend its
functionality by using plugins. The plugin control panel can be opened from the menu: ->
options -> preferences, or by Control P.”

Don’t tell Lars or Dr. Dre, but an Irish company is developing a Bluetooth technology that will allow the file-trading of music from one device to another. Wired.com has the story.

The Register reports: “The Inferno OS has parked a heavily-armoured tricycle on Sun’s
lawn. Lucent spin-off Vita Nuova, which also markets the Plan 9
system, has made an Inferno plug-in for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer
to run downloadable code.”

“Professional Linux Deployment is part of the Wrox Programmer to Programmer series. In the Introduction the book states it will teach professional
administrators steps to replace existing network systems with Linux. The book is targeted towards the NT and non-Linux UNIX administrator. It presumes the

Hitachi’s Flora-ie 55mi is effectively a cross between a notebook, a handheld and a cell phone, reports CNET.com.. The device–which looks like a
notebook screen with a frame–hooks up directly to the Internet and is used to search Web content or run applications, similar to a
standard PC. However, people can use a pen to input data like a Palm. Additionally, it contains a mobile phone interface for calls.
