Updated Linux 2.4 status list posted

“OK, here’s the updated Linux 2.4 bug list. I let myself get a bit
behind, so it took me a while to process through all of my backlogged
l-k mail archives to assemble this list. As always, it’s complete as I
can make it, but it’s not perfect. In particualar, some bugs listed on
this page may have been fixed already. If so, or if you know some bug
that didn’t make on to this list, please let me know.” The list is at LWN.net.

Linux, Unix also face security threats

Buried in a Boston Globe story about a Palm virus: “The heavy duty Unix operating system and its upstart younger
brother Linux have a reputation for being more secure than
mass-market software like Microsoft Windows. But that doesn’t mean
they’re perfect. Last week saw announcements of newly discovered
security flaws in Unix and Linux that could serve as catnip to
ambitious computer vandals.
The SecurityFocus Web site (www.securityfocus.org) reports on a
newly discovered exploit that uses the printing functions of Unix
or Linux machines to trick them into running subversive commands.”

Calling for a boycott of hacksdmi.org

programs or devices that violate privacy or interfere with the right of fair use.”

HP gets attractive rating after releasing UNIX server

stock. The company update comes one day after HP formally announced the release of its
‘Superdome’ product — a high-end UNIX server. The new server comes with a unique utility
