MP3Cafe shuts down

One of the most popular meeting spots for trading MP3 songs and information on the underground Internet Relay Chat network has closed its virtual doors. MP3Cafe had been a place where hundreds of people at a time would gather to download music, chat about bands, and trade information about other file-swapping nodes on the Net. While the activity was minor compared to the activity on Napster and similar services, it was a tight and active community, reports CNet.

Study: Red Hat still holds huge Linux lead

Red Hat has more of the Linux market than its next five competitors combined, but those competitors all are increasing their share faster, a study has found. Red Hat shipped 48 percent of the copies of Linux that were sold in 1999, according to market research firm International Data Corp. But while that market grew 89 percent from 1998 to 1999, Red Hat’s share of the market grew only 69 percent, said IDC analyst Dan Kusnetzky. CNet’s story.
