Sharp unveils Linux-based handheld

C|Net is reporting that “Sharp has announced a new Linux-based handheld for the Japanese market. The company introduced the device at a press conference in Tokyo on Monday. The Zaurus SL-A300 uses the Linux operating system and will be available in Japan starting July 12 for 50,000 yen ($411).

But cost and security issues with Microsoft’s software, combined with the arrival of the Mozilla Web browser, have triggered Red Hat’s interest in a desktop Linux, Chief Executive Matthew Szulik said in an interview with ZDNet.” Welcome aboard, Red Hat.
