CBS reports on the Comdex over-reaction: “Bags – including laptop cases and briefcases – will be banned on the trade show floor and at all keynote speeches. Exceptions will be made for exhibitors and members of the media.

If attendees absolutely must take their laptops, the equipment may be allowed on a case-by-case basis – but not with their cases.

Purses and fanny packs will be allowed, but will be subject to security checks.”

From The Register: “Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS) has developed a multiple format drive that is able to write in both DVD-RAM and DVD-RW formats, as well as DVD-R and CD-RW. HLDS has not yet announced pricing on the product (the GMA-4120B), although it claims the drive will be cheaper than existing DVD writing products. HP currently sells its DVD+RW/CD-RW combo drive for $599.”
