Traditional intrusion detection model outdated

Author: JT Smith

LogError writes: “The Internet and interoperable intranets are a vast and complex dimension of both enabling and inhibiting data flows. Current generation intrusion detection (ID) systems are not technologically advanced enough to create the situational knowledge required to manage these networks. Next generation ID system will fuse data, combining both short-term sensor data with long-term knowledge databases, to create cyberspace situational awareness. Read more at Help Net Security.”

A distribution is (re)born: FKA Corel Linux

Author: JT Smith

“After what seems like an interminable wait, the newly formed Xandros Corporation announced that it has signed a strategic licensing agreement with Corel Corporation,
giving it access to Corel’s Linux desktop OS and related technologies. (The desktop applications, such as WordPerfect Office for Linux, remain with Corel.)

Xandros was staked with US $10 million in venture capital by its founding parent, Linux Global Partners. Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and staffed with several of
the former lead developers from Corel, Xandros is boldly targeting the market in which other distributions fear to tread: the typical desktop user in the home, school,
corporate, or educational setting.” More at ConsultingTimes.com.

Linux Planet kicks off a business column

Author: JT Smith

LinuxPlanet: “Welcome to a new feature of Linux Planet, where every other week we’ll focus on things related to the business aspects of Linux. But, we hope,
this feature will be different from most Linux business coverage, which is either rewritten PR pieces or articles bemoaning the presence of filthy
lucre in our pristine little community. There is much to talk about, and there are serious questions to be asked.”
