He doesn’t think it’s likely. “There’s no way in hell Microsoft is going to tax the rest of the world, so don’t even worry about it.” But is he right?

Reported at Upside: “Sun Microsystems (SUNW) gave an already
beleaguered market more bad news today, saying it
would have difficulty reaching the break-even mark
this quarter.

In a conference call with analysts, Chief Financial Officer Michael Lehman said the
company would probably not be able to hit the $3.7 billion revenue mark it would take
to break even.”

America is considering new
technology to allow Chinese citizens
access to Web sites now banned by
their government. Software, called Triangle Boy, will act
as a deflector for Chinese citizens who
want to access banned Internet sites.
The technology attempts to fool the
government by sending the signal outside the government’s firewall to a “friends”
site, then bounces that signal to the “banned” site and back to your computer.”

spread a new version of the Code Red virus

been infected.

ZDNet reports: “Intel will ship new wireless home-computing products Wednesday that support a wireless
technology the giant chipmaker once competed against. Intel on Wednesday will announce new AnyPoint Wireless II Network products based on 802.11b
that let people wirelessly link their PCs and laptops so they can share a Net connection, files
and computer peripherals such as printers. The products will allow laptop users to roam around a
house and surf the Web.”

LinuxSecurity.com: “”xinetd” is an alternative to the inetd superserver, used to start
services on demand.
Solar Designer did a security audit in this package and produced a
patch that was accepted by the author and incorporated in version
2.3.1 and later. This patch fixes many security and reliability
issues with xinetd.
Another issue is that the version shipped with Conectiva Linux 7.0
has IPv6 enabled, causing it to not work with IPv4-only systems. This
update disables IPv6 support.”

LinuxSecurity.com: “OpenLDAP is an LDAPv2 and LDAPv3 (starting with version 2.0.x)
server.
The PROTOS[2] project conducted several protocol tests with many
different LDAP servers. It was verified[3] that OpenLDAP versions
before 1.2.11 and 2.0.8 (from the 2.0.x series) have a remote denial
of service vulnerability that allows a remote attacker to disrupt the
service.”

database expert Great Bridge is demonstrating a
new e-commerce package for large businesses
that want to build applications for the Web.

Appropriately called WebSuite, the package
contains Great Bridge’s PostgreSQL database,
the PHP scripting language and the Apache
Web server. The company hopes with WebSuite
to lessen customer time in developing
Web-enabled applications, customer
relationship management systems and supply
chain management.”
